To assist with the development and management of data, systems and processes which implement LPPI's commitment to Responsible Investment as an integral part of investment management and stewardship. Data capture and analysis, information management, quality assurance and input to internal and external reporting all feature within the role which will support planning, measurement, decision-making, monitoring, reporting and communication.
Key areas of focus are
Maintenance, oversight and reporting on LPPI's Shareholder Voting approach for the Global Equities Fund utilising an online voting platform (ISS Proxy Exchange);
Building, populating, testing, updating and producing accurate data outputs from internal financial models which capture granular information on the exposure of client portfolios to different sectors and inform commentary on the wider benefits (and risks) associated with their investments;
Providing agreed content as an input to internal and external monitoring and reporting
Supporting the Responsible Investment Manager in responding to the requirements of the LPP Stewardship Committee and meeting the requests of client funds for direct support and advice on stewardship and RI matters, including responses to FOI requests
The post holder will build knowledge and capability across the investments function in order to support the wider team in implementing LPPI's RI Policy commitments and effectively carry out any other investment administration activities assigned to them.
Actively assist the operation and development, monitoring and improvement of internal data systems and processes which support RI implementation and stewardship reporting.
Responsible for maintaining effective day to day oversight of the Shareholder Voting process using ISS Proxy Exchange. Liaise with the RI Manager on priority voting themes and execute agreed voting decisions at individual meetings where these themes arise.
Lead on day to day administrative matters associated with the operation of LPP I's contract with Investor Protection Services (IPS) for Shareholder Litigation monitoring and filing services. Ensure the contract runs effectively and any matters arising are dealt with (in discussion with the RI Manager as appropriate).
Responsible for oversight and maintenance of existing models and tools which enable quantification and analysis of the Listed Equity, Private Equity and Infrastructure asset classes by delivering;
quantitative and qualitative insights into Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks faced from current investments
insights capable of being inputs to strategy, decision-making and reporting to clients
Contribute to the design and implementation of appropriate data models for analysing and reporting on additional asset classes (Credit, Fixed Income, Total Return, Real Estate)
Support the wider investment team by contributing to administrative aspects of the team's ongoing workload as directed.
Lead Accountability for monitor and oversee shareholder voting day to day and ensure any issues which would prevent LPP I from voting at meetings for companies within the Global Equities Fund are known about and resolved in advance.
Liaise with the Listed Equities Team on voting decisions for companies in the internally managed portfolio to ensure their views are reflected in voting activity.
Work with the RI Manager to identify priority companies and priority voting themes for LPP. Ensure upcoming meetings where priority issues arise are known about in advance are given appropriate time and analysis.
Accountable for the production of reports on voting activity quarterly (in an agreed format) for consideration by LPP Stewardship Committee prior to publication on the LPP website.
Produce required content for the LPP Stewardship Committee and for RI reporting to client funds (quarterly) and contribute material for inclusion in external reporting on stewardship as requested.
Oversee LPP's contract with the litigation services provider. Cultivate an effective working relationship to ensure contract delivery runs smoothly, administration is efficient/to the required standard and reporting and billing are delivered in a timely way.
Oversee the maintenance and refresh of existing data models capturing exposure to "green" (renewable) and "brown" (fossil fuel/extractives) sectors based on "look-through" to underlying companies which references manager reports issued quarterly. Ensure models are accurate, reconciled and identify both source data and assumptions made. Develop appropriate data models to capture comparable "green and "brown" exposure from additional asset classes (Credit, Fixed Income, Total Return, Real Estate) in liaison with the RI Manager.
Maintain and refresh the Governance Heat Map produced for the Listed Equities team which summarises the current governance issues identified by ISS for all companies in the internally managed portfolio.
Liaise with other investment staff and the Operations Team (as required) to produce any ad hoc information requested by the RI Manager in response to an FOI request or as an input to internal or external monitoring and reporting on RI activity.
Continually seek to develop knowledge and skill in the RI/ESG/Stewardship areas of investment management through familiarity with regulatory requirements, awareness of emergent best practice by other asset owners and familiarity with external measures of stewardship quality (via reading, attendance at external seminars/events, and broader networking).
Actively support LPP's equality programme, both internally and externally, along with all other corporate policy initiatives, as directed
The post holder should demonstrate the following:
Educated to Degree level, ideally within a business, finance and/or investment related discipline.
Ideally with minimum of 3 years prior experience of an RI, ESG or stewardship-oriented role gained within a relevant and similar organisation
Highly effective and accurate numerical and analytical skills. Proven capabilities in the use of MS office tools (Excel to a minimum of intermediate level) to assist data management and support the identification and communication of key messages as part of facilitating discussions and decision making.
Confidence and aptitude for learning and using IT systems and a commitment to continuing to develop knowledge and skills across systems and software relevant to the role.
Demonstrable planning, organisation, data management and administrative capabilities.
Effective communication skills including the ability to influence and build positive and productive working relationships with colleagues, service providers and other internal and external partners as required.
A proactive, self-motivated team player with the ability to manage a large personal workload with multiple competing deadlines.
An understanding of the breadth of the diversity agenda including embedding good practice and an understanding of LPP's commitment to combating discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity.
