Trinity University seeks to add a thoughtful and experienced Investment Analyst or Senior Investment Analyst to the Office of Investments. The Investment Analyst or Senior Investment Analyst will play an integral role and be actively involved in all aspects of portfolio analysis, investment manager due diligence and manager monitoring efforts. The Analyst will have a high degree of exposure and a unique opportunity to work with leading global investors across a diverse range of investment strategies, industries, and regions. The position is a generalist investment role and offers broad exposure to all asset classes (public equity, credit, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital), an opportunity to further develop investment expertise and the ability to add value in an intellectually demanding and collaborative environment. The Office of Investments is a small, growing team and has an open environment for asking questions and exploring opportunities. Successful candidates are entrepreneurial, intellectually curious, analytical, highly attuned to detail and capable of working well autonomously. The Office of Investments would encourage and support the pursuit of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation as well as other professional credentials (CAIA, FRM, CIPM, etc.).
The Trinity University endowment is a $1.6 billion (as of December 31, 2020), globally diversified investment portfolio with investments across public and private equity, venture capital, real assets, hedge funds and fixed income. The purpose of the endowment is to provide a stable source of funding for current university operations and to preserve and grow purchasing power to benefit future generations of students. The endowment is critical to the University’s ability to achieve its strategic goals; annual distributions from the endowment fund support approximately 35% of the annual $145 million operating budget.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Support and assist with manager due diligence and research process. Participate in investment manager meetings and conduct deep and accurate fundamental bottoms-up analysis using quantitative/statistical methods and advanced excel modelling skills to analyze current and prospective investments. Build and update models for new investments and prospects, execute a wide variety of performance, risk measurement and attribution analyses. Analyze private investment fund data based on vintage year, strategy, and risk/return characteristics. Document manager due diligence process and contribute to investment memos with supervision and review.
Responsible for day-to-day portfolio analysis and investment monitoring. Collect overall portfolio and general market characteristics, including exposures, performance, attribution, liquidity, cash flow, and key risks. Analyze and assist with regular reviews of investment managers, asset class attributes, risk management metrics; highlight material changes and insights to the Investment Team. Participate in external manager and reference meetings and calls to contribute insightful questions and capture accurate notes.
Support the Investment Team on research projects, analytics, and other endowment office initiatives. Conduct special projects pertaining to the University and help in preparation and creation of Investment Committee materials.
Assist with interim and year-end requests associated with accounting, legal, tax, and internal or external auditors regarding Trinity capital relationships. Record and reconcile investment transactions and performance using various spreadsheets and software tools to ensure accurate and timely monthly performance reporting.
Assist with supervision and training of Office of Investments' internship programs.
Keep up-to-date with macroeconomic news flows of financial markets, global economics, and endowment and foundation industry. Review current market data supplied by industry sources and respected publications.
Represent Trinity University and the investment program with the utmost integrity and professionalism. Communicate and collaborate effectively with other Trinity University staff and peers in multiple functions, including legal and endowment operations, among others, as needed. Serve as a respected ambassador for the organization at manager meetings, conferences, and industry events.
Cooperate and collaborate with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.

May be needed to work extended hours (on weekends or in the evening) as needed to complete time sensitive work assignments.
May be needed to travel as part of due diligence or other Office of Investments activities.
Long periods of time working in front of a computer (up to 8 hours or more each day).
Title and Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Investment Analyst: 1+ years in investment management of related fields with a recognized and respected firm, i.e. an endowment, foundation, pension fund, family office, OCIO firm, consultant, investment management firm, or investment banking firm.
Senior Investment Analyst: 3+ years in investment management or related fields with a recognized and respected firm, i.e. an endowment, foundation, pension fund, family office, OCIO firm, consultant, investment management firm, or investment banking firm.
Private market experience a plus (experience underwriting private equity, venture capital, real asset, private credit and or opportunistic investment mandates that include distressed equity or credit, structured credit, or other alternative private market strategies).

Meticulous attention to detail and superior organizational skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Expertise with computer programs, particularly Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Strong interest in and knowledge of finance, investing and capital markets.
Demonstrates knowledge of corporate finance and valuation fundamentals.
Understands endowment investing, portfolio asset class construction and rebalancing, investment valuation and relative valuation techniques.
Ability to evaluate and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data across asset classes.
Ability to utilize quantitative analysis to develop a thesis and tell a clear story.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a small, diverse team with an interpersonal style that fits a collegial, collaborative, team-oriented culture.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Finance or related field from four-year college or university with strong academic credentials and a well-rounded set of extra-curricular activities and experiences.
Preferred: Progress toward CFA or CAIA designation
