The Investment Office of Carnegie Mellon University manages the university's endowment and other long-term financial investments. The $3.1B endowment investment portfolio is equities-focused with an emphasis on private investments, particularly those sourced through commitments to approximately 280 different private equity funds. We work with some of the very best investment managers in the world to protect and grow these resources to support the university's research and education mission.
We are seeking an Investment Accountant to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will assume critical process, control, and recording responsibilities for endowment financial reporting and analytics. Reporting to the Investment Operations Associate Director, you will have areas of responsibility to include primary responsibility for financial recording of portfolio values and activity, producing reports and analytics for leadership, and facilitating the annual independent financial audit.
Core responsibilities will include:
- Managing the inflow of financial information from investment fund managers.
- Computing quarterly valuations for the investment portfolio and posting accounting entries (capital activity, valuation change, etc.) within the ledger.
- Driving the monthly and quarterly close process including key reconciliations between Multiview investment accounting system, custodian/consultant, and Oracle general ledger.
- Ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of the monthly reporting and posting to CMU's Oracle general ledger.
- Assisting with the buildout of portfolio company level data tracked within Multiview for private equity fund investments.
- Assisting with Microsoft Power BI analytics database development and reporting dashboards to support investment decisions.
- Producing ad-hoc reports and presentations for use by the Investment Office and the University's leadership.
- Serving as back-up for processing investment capital calls and distributions.
- Supporting annual independent audit functions by completing required" prepared by client" list items, coordinating information flow to/from auditors, and answering questions generated during fieldwork.

You should demonstrate:
- Knowledge of professional practice in financial accounting and reporting, internal controls, and external reporting. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze GAAP and IFRS financial documents.
- Ability to problem solve and gather/analyze information skillfully and efficiently.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot table and v-lookup functionality. Ability to analyze large data sets and identify patterns and gaps within the data.
- Strong technology and software skills for various tasks including Dynamo CRM, Multiview, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Team player approach to collaboration, ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail, and a keen sense of prioritization and planning.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills and high standards of professional ethics and integrity.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance required; CPA highly desired.
- Minimum of two years experience in an accounting or auditing position (or equivalent combination of education/experience).
- Investment accounting experience is a plus.
- Experience with Multiview, Oracle accounting software and/or Microsoft Power BI is a plus.

- The successful candidate will join our team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Work is conducted primarily in person in a high-rise office environment. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered for candidates residing in the Pittsburgh area and within Pennsylvania.
