The Johns Hopkins University is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Investments within its Investment Office, reporting directly to the Managing Director of Investments. The Investment Office has responsibility for investing the endowments for the University, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and other related endowed entities totaling more than $6 billion, among many other assets.
Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 and is one of the world's premier teaching and research institutions with nearly 22,000 students across nine academic divisions. The University attracts the finest undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, post-doctoral and professional degree students and more federal research and development funding than any other university in the United States.
The Director of Investments will be an integral member of the Investment Office, leading our healthcare investment activities and taking on important responsibilities that span the endowment and related portfolios. The position will play a key role conducting due diligence on new and existing investment managers across public and private equity and credit, with a particular focus on biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare and related technology investment opportunities.
Specific responsibilities include:
Conduct due diligence on prospective investment managers by evaluating the team and strategy, analyzing performance, debating with colleagues, and preparing recommendation summaries
Monitor and analyze existing investment partnerships both through on-site visits and research
Research investment and industry trends, and opportunistic investment projects as they arise
Present as appropriate to the Board of Trustees Committee on Investments, the University President, and other relevant stakeholders, and represent Johns Hopkins University as a leader in the local community and among the broad Johns Hopkins constituency
Work closely with the Managing Director of Investments and the senior investment leaders in managing overall portfolio allocation and risk, with particular responsibility around manager allocations across asset classes

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a record of demonstrable success in prior healthcare work experience, which may include roles in investment management, investment banking, management consulting and/or corporate strategy, and/or as a physician taking care of patients. Strong academic achievement is required, as well as the highest standards of personal and professional ethics and integrity. Personal fit within a dynamic team is essential.
A minimum of 7 years of related or relevant work experience is required, as is significant coursework in the hard sciences (e.g., biology, biomedical engineering, biophysics, chemical & biomolecular engineering, chemistry, molecular & cellular biology, neuroscience).
A Bachelor's degree is required.
An M.B.A., M.D., Ph.D. and/or Master's degree is strongly preferred.
